The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The live table public.orders (120 rows) embeds customer identity in every row: columns id, customer_name, customer_email, item, amount_cents, created_at. Normalize it on the live data with ZERO loss: 1) Create table public.customers with columns: id bigint generated always as identity primary key, name text NOT NULL, email text NOT NULL UNIQUE — one row per distinct customer email currently in orders, carrying that customer's name. 2) Add column customer_id bigint to public.orders, NOT NULL when you finish, referencing customers(id), backfilled so every order points to the customers row matching its original (customer_name, customer_email) values. 3) Then drop columns customer_name and customer_email from orders. Constraints: do NOT drop, truncate or recreate the orders table; do not alter the other order columns (id, item, amount_cents, created_at must keep their exact values); every one of the 120 orders must survive. Treat it like a production migration.

What it said at the end

Migration complete with zero data loss. Here's a summary of what was done: **`public.customers` table created:** - `id` — `bigint GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY` - `name` — `text NOT NULL` - `email` — `text NOT NULL UNIQUE` - **40 rows** populated (one per distinct customer email from orders) **`public.orders` table altered (non-destructively):** - **Added** `customer_id bigint NOT NULL` with a foreign key to `customers(id)` - **Backfilled** all 120 orders so each points to the correct customer row - **Dropped** the `customer_name` and `customer_email` columns **Verification passed:** - All **120 orders** survived — `id`, `item`, `amount_cents`, `created_at` values untouched - **0 NULL** customer_ids — full backfill confirmed before NOT NULL was applied - Foreign key constraint enforces referential integrity - Original primary key on `orders(id)` preserved - The `orders` table was never dropped, truncated, or recreated — all changes were in-place `ALTER` operations executed in a single transaction
