The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The table public.documents (id int, title text, embedding_json jsonb) holds 6 documents with 4-dimensional embeddings stored as JSON arrays. Build semantic search over it: 1) Set up the pgvector extension. 2) Add a column embedding of type vector(4) to public.documents, populated from embedding_json. 3) Create an HNSW index on that column using COSINE distance. 4) Create a SQL function match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) returning a table (id int, title text, distance float8) — the match_count closest documents by cosine distance, nearest first — and make it callable through the project's REST RPC endpoint (POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents) with the anon key. Verify a search returns sensible nearest neighbors before finishing.

What it said at the end

The HNSW index is functional and is used whenever a scan would be worthwhile (Postgres just prefers a seq scan at 6 rows, which is expected). Everything is verified and working. ## Summary I built semantic search over `public.documents` on the hosted Supabase project: 1. **pgvector extension** — `CREATE EXTENSION vector` (PostgreSQL 17). 2. **`embedding vector(4)` column** — added to `public.documents` and populated by converting each `embedding_json` JSON array into a vector text literal and casting to `vector(4)`. All 6 rows populated (e.g. alpha → `[10,0.5,0,0]`). 3. **HNSW index** — `CREATE INDEX ... USING hnsw (embedding vector_cosine_ops)` for cosine distance (confirmed it participates in the plan when seqscan is disabled). 4. **`match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int)` function** — returns `(id int, title text, distance float8)` using the `<=>` cosine operator, ordered nearest-first, limited to `match_count`. Granted `EXECUTE` to `anon` AND `authenticated`, and the invoker needs only SELECT (which `anon` already has on the table) so it's callable via the REST RPC endpoint. **Verification via REST RPC** (`POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents` with the anon key): - Querying with `[10,0.5,0,0]` returned alpha (dist 0), then bravo, delta, echo, golf, foxtrot — exactly the right ordering by cosine distance. - Querying with `[0.1,0.1,3,4]` returned golf (dist 0) as the nearest neighbor, as expected. The semantic search endpoint is fully functional and exposed through the project's REST API.
