The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The table public.documents (id int, title text, embedding_json jsonb) holds 6 documents with 4-dimensional embeddings stored as JSON arrays. Build semantic search over it: 1) Set up the pgvector extension. 2) Add a column embedding of type vector(4) to public.documents, populated from embedding_json. 3) Create an HNSW index on that column using COSINE distance. 4) Create a SQL function match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) returning a table (id int, title text, distance float8) — the match_count closest documents by cosine distance, nearest first — and make it callable through the project's REST RPC endpoint (POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents) with the anon key. Verify a search returns sensible nearest neighbors before finishing.

What it said at the end

The HNSW index is real and functional — it's used for the cosine-distance ordered scan when seqscan is disabled (the default seq scan for 6 rows is just Postgres cost-based optimization, not a problem with the index). Everything is verified. Here's a summary of what I built: ## Summary I set up semantic search over `public.documents` in the hosted Supabase project: 1. **pgvector extension** — `CREATE EXTENSION vector` (v0.8.2). 2. **New `embedding` column** — added `embedding vector(4)` to `public.documents` and populated it from `embedding_json` (JSON arrays → vector), so all 6 rows now carry native vector embeddings. 3. **HNSW index** — `CREATE INDEX ... USING hnsw (embedding vector_cosine_ops)` for cosine distance. 4. **`match_documents` function** — `public.match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int)` returns `(id, title, distance)`, ordered by true cosine distance (`<=>` operator, where 0 = identical) nearest-first. Granted `EXECUTE` to `anon`/`authenticated`/`service_role`, and granted `SELECT` on the table so the `SECURITY INVOKER` function works under the anon role. It's exposed via the REST RPC endpoint. **RPC verification (POST `/rest/v1/rpc/match_documents` with the anon key) returned sensible nearest neighbors:** - Query `[10, 0.5, 0, 0]` → alpha (dist 0), bravo (0.037), delta (0.637). - Query `[0, 2, 0, 0]` → echo (dist 0), delta (0.051), bravo (0.684). - Query `[0.2, 0.2, 6, 8]` (near golf) → golf (dist 0) first. Each call returned HTTP 200 with correct, well-ranked results. The HNSW index is confirmed usable (Postgres just prefers a seq scan for 6 rows due to table size, which is expected).
