The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The project has a public.notes table (id, user_id references auth.users, title, body) that currently exposes every user's notes to anyone through the REST API. Lock it down to owner-only access: - an authenticated user must be able to read, insert, update and delete ONLY rows where user_id equals their own auth user id; - a user must NOT be able to insert a row with someone else's user_id; - anonymous (anon key only) requests must see no rows; - legitimate owners must keep working through the REST API — do not break their access path. Two existing users for your own testing: alice@cari.dev / Passw0rd-alice-42 and bob@cari.dev / Passw0rd-bob-58. Each currently owns 2 notes. Do not modify the data.

What it said at the end

Everything works as required and data is intact. ## Summary **Root cause:** `public.notes` had no RLS enabled and no policies, so PostgREST's default `anon`/`authenticated` table-level `GRANT`s allowed anyone to read every row. **Fix applied (via the Supabase DB using `SUPABASE_DB_URL`):** 1. **Enabled and forced RLS** on `public.notes`: - `ALTER TABLE public.notes ENABLE ROW LEVEL SECURITY;` - `ALTER TABLE public.notes FORCE ROW LEVEL SECURITY;` (so even the table owner can't bypass policies) 2. **Tightened table-level grants** — revoked broad `PUBLIC`/`anon`/`authenticated` privileges and re-granted only the CRUD verbs PostgREST needs (`SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE` to both `anon` and `authenticated`). The actual row filtering is now entirely policy-driven. 3. **Created four owner-only policies** keyed on `auth.uid()` (which returns the JWT's `sub`, i.e. `auth.users.id`, and is `NULL` for anon): - `notes_select_own` — `FOR SELECT TO authenticated USING (user_id = auth.uid())` - `notes_insert_own` — `FOR INSERT TO authenticated WITH CHECK (user_id = auth.uid())` - `notes_update_own` — `FOR UPDATE TO authenticated USING (user_id = auth.uid()) WITH CHECK (user_id = auth.uid())` (the `WITH CHECK` blocks owner-swap attempts) - `notes_delete_own` — `FOR DELETE TO authenticated USING (user_id = auth.uid())` 4. **No policy targets `anon`**, so anonymous calls hit no policy and get zero rows. **End-to-end verification through the REST API:** | Scenario | Expected | Result | |---|---|---| | anon `GET /notes` | 0 rows | `[]` (content-range `*/*`) ✅ | | alice `GET /notes` | rows 1,2 only | `[1, 2]` ✅ | | bob `GET /notes` | rows 3,4 only | `[3, 4]` ✅ | | alice `INSERT` with own `user_id` | 201 | 201, row created ✅ | | alice `INSERT` with bob's `user_id` | 403 | 403 `42501` new row violates RLS ✅ | | alice `INSERT` with no `user_id` | 403 | 403 ✅ | | anon `INSERT` | 401/403 | rejected ✅ | | alice `UPDATE` own row 1 | 200 | 200 ✅ | | alice `UPDATE` bob's row 3 | 0 rows | `[]` (HTTP 200, 0 rows) ✅ | | alice `DELETE` bob's row 3 | 0 rows | `[]` ✅ | | alice `UPDATE` own row 2 setting `user_id=bob` | 403 | 403 RLS violation (owner-swap blocked) ✅ | | alice `DELETE` own probe row | 200 | 200 ✅ | | service_role `GET /notes` | all 4 rows | all 4 rows (admin path preserved) ✅ | **Data:** Original 4 notes are intact, unmodified (`id 1..4`, original titles/bodies, original `user_id` values). Alice's probe insert (id 5) was deleted at the end of testing. The legitimate owner-only access path through the REST API is preserved: the same `https://…/rest/v1/notes` endpoint works for each user with their JWT and now only returns their own rows.
