The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The table public.documents (id int, title text, embedding_json jsonb) holds 6 documents with 4-dimensional embeddings stored as JSON arrays. Build semantic search over it: 1) Set up the pgvector extension. 2) Add a column embedding of type vector(4) to public.documents, populated from embedding_json. 3) Create an HNSW index on that column using COSINE distance. 4) Create a SQL function match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) returning a table (id int, title text, distance float8) — the match_count closest documents by cosine distance, nearest first — and make it callable through the project's REST RPC endpoint (POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents) with the anon key. Verify a search returns sensible nearest neighbors before finishing.

What it said at the end

Everything is working correctly. The results are semantically sensible (each query returns itself as the exact match with distance 0, and neighbors ordered by cosine similarity make sense — e.g., near-parallel vectors like alpha/bravo/delta cluster together, while foxtrot with its opposite-sign x-component is farthest from those). The query planner is using a sequential scan here only because the table has 6 rows (below the planner's cost threshold to bother with the index) — this is expected and fine; the HNSW index exists and would be used automatically as the table grows. ## Summary I built semantic search over `public.documents` in the Supabase project: 1. **pgvector extension**: Ran `create extension if not exists vector;` 2. **embedding column**: Added `embedding vector(4)` to `public.documents`, populated it by casting each `embedding_json` JSON array to a `vector(4)`, then set the column `NOT NULL`. 3. **HNSW index**: Created `documents_embedding_hnsw_cosine_idx` as `USING hnsw (embedding vector_cosine_ops)` for cosine-distance nearest-neighbor search. 4. **RPC function**: Created `public.match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) RETURNS TABLE(id int, title text, distance float8)` as a `STABLE SQL` function that orders by `embedding <=> query_embedding` (cosine distance) and limits to `match_count`. Granted `EXECUTE` to `anon`, `authenticated`, and `service_role`, then triggered a PostgREST schema-cache reload (`NOTIFY pgrst, 'reload schema'`) so the function became visible at `/rest/v1/rpc/match_documents`. **Verification**: Called the REST RPC endpoint with the anon key using several different query vectors (matching alpha, golf, echo, and foxtrot). In every case the function correctly returned the source document itself first (distance 0), followed by its true nearest neighbors in sensible cosine-distance order — confirming the search works end-to-end through the public REST API.
