The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The table public.documents (id int, title text, embedding_json jsonb) holds 6 documents with 4-dimensional embeddings stored as JSON arrays. Build semantic search over it: 1) Set up the pgvector extension. 2) Add a column embedding of type vector(4) to public.documents, populated from embedding_json. 3) Create an HNSW index on that column using COSINE distance. 4) Create a SQL function match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) returning a table (id int, title text, distance float8) — the match_count closest documents by cosine distance, nearest first — and make it callable through the project's REST RPC endpoint (POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents) with the anon key. Verify a search returns sensible nearest neighbors before finishing.

What it said at the end

Confirmed — the HNSW cosine index is valid and gets picked up by the planner when forced, proving it's correctly built for ORDER BY `<=>` (cosine distance) queries. ## Summary I set up semantic search over `public.documents` in the hosted Supabase project: 1. **pgvector extension**: Ran `create extension if not exists vector;` (v0.8.2, already available on the instance). 2. **`embedding` column**: Added `embedding vector(4)` to `public.documents` and populated it by casting each `embedding_json` JSON array to a `vector(4)` via `jsonb_array_elements_text` + `array_agg`. Verified all 6 rows converted correctly. 3. **HNSW index**: Created `documents_embedding_hnsw_cosine_idx` using `USING hnsw (embedding vector_cosine_ops)` (cosine distance). Verified via `EXPLAIN` (with `enable_seqscan=off`) that it's picked up correctly for `ORDER BY embedding <=> query` — Postgres normally prefers a seq scan here only because the table has just 6 rows, which is expected/optimal. 4. **`match_documents` RPC function**: Created `public.match_documents(query_embedding vector(4), match_count int) returns table(id int, title text, distance float8)` as a `stable sql` function ordering by `embedding <=> query_embedding` (cosine distance, nearest first), and granted `EXECUTE` to `anon`, `authenticated`, and `service_role`. Sent `NOTIFY pgrst, 'reload schema'` so PostgREST picked up the new function immediately. **Verification** via `POST /rest/v1/rpc/match_documents` with the anon key: - Query `[1, 0.3, 0, 0]` → top match `bravo` (dist ≈0.0005), then `alpha`, then `delta` — correct. - Query `[0, 0, 3, 4]` → top match `golf` (dist ≈0.0004, the only doc with nonzero 3rd/4th dims), others at distance 1 (orthogonal) — correct. - Query `[21, 59, 0, 0]` → returns all 6 ranked correctly nearest-to-farthest, top match `delta` (dist ≈0.0002), then `echo`, `bravo`, `alpha`, `golf`, `foxtrot` — correct. All results show sensible nearest-neighbor ordering, confirming the search works end-to-end through the REST RPC endpoint.
