The task as the agent received it

You have operator access to a hosted Supabase project. Credentials are in environment variables: SUPABASE_URL, SUPABASE_PROJECT_REF, SUPABASE_ANON_KEY, SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY, SUPABASE_DB_URL, SUPABASE_DB_PASSWORD. The project has a public.notes table (id, user_id references auth.users, title, body) that currently exposes every user's notes to anyone through the REST API. Lock it down to owner-only access: - an authenticated user must be able to read, insert, update and delete ONLY rows where user_id equals their own auth user id; - a user must NOT be able to insert a row with someone else's user_id; - anonymous (anon key only) requests must see no rows; - legitimate owners must keep working through the REST API — do not break their access path. Two existing users for your own testing: alice@cari.dev / Passw0rd-alice-42 and bob@cari.dev / Passw0rd-bob-58. Each currently owns 2 notes. Do not modify the data.

What it said at the end

## Summary The `public.notes` table was wide open: RLS was disabled and both `anon` and `authenticated` roles had full table grants, so anyone with the anon key could read/write every user's notes. **Fix applied (via `SUPABASE_DB_URL`/psql):** 1. `ALTER TABLE public.notes ENABLE ROW LEVEL SECURITY` + `FORCE ROW LEVEL SECURITY` (forces RLS even for the table owner/direct connections). 2. Created 4 owner-only policies for the `authenticated` role: - `notes_select_own` — `USING (auth.uid() = user_id)` - `notes_insert_own` — `WITH CHECK (auth.uid() = user_id)` (blocks inserting rows tagged with someone else's `user_id`) - `notes_update_own` — `USING` **and** `WITH CHECK (auth.uid() = user_id)` (blocks editing others' rows and blocks re-assigning `user_id` away from yourself) - `notes_delete_own` — `USING (auth.uid() = user_id)` 3. Tightened table grants: revoked all privileges on `notes` from `anon` (and re-granted only SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE to `authenticated`), so anonymous requests now get a straightforward `permission denied` rather than relying on RLS alone. `service_role`/`postgres` retain full access for backend/admin use (RLS bypass by design). **Verified via the real REST API** (`/rest/v1/notes`) using anon key and real password logins for alice/bob: - Anonymous requests (with or without a bearer header) → `401/403 permission denied`, no rows. - Alice sees only her 2 notes; Bob sees only his 2 notes. - Alice inserting a row with Bob's `user_id` → `403 RLS violation`. - Alice inserting/updating/deleting her own rows → succeeds normally. - Bob attempting to UPDATE/DELETE Alice's note by id → succeeds at the HTTP level but affects **0 rows** (RLS filters it out), i.e. no cross-user tampering. - Alice attempting to change her own note's `user_id` to Bob's → blocked by `WITH CHECK`. - Service role key still sees all 4 original rows, confirming no data was modified — final state is exactly the original 4 notes (2 per user), plus my test insert was cleaned up. Owner-only access is enforced end-to-end through the REST API without breaking legitimate access paths.

How it was graded

A shell script executed against the live project and asserted on the state the agent left behind. No model judged another model.

exit 1 FAIL: anon can read notes: {"code":"42501","details":null,"hint":"Grant the required privileges to the current role with: GRANT SELECT ON public.notes TO anon;","message":"permission denied for table notes"}
